An indigenous Chakma girl with speech-disability raped by two Bengali settlers in Laxmichari
On 3 April 2014, around 3:00 pm an indigenous Chakma girl with speech-disability (16), was raped forcibly by two Bengali settlers in Dhungmukh village of Laxmichari union of Laxmichari upazila under Khagrachari district. The perpetrators are from Mayurkhil Gutchagram under same district.
It is learnt that the miscreants caught and forcibly raped the girl in a quiet place near to the village when the victim went to fetch water to Hatichora. The local people seized the perpetrator after getting information about the occurrence from a village boy who saw the incident directly. One of the perpetrators namely Md. Shariful Islam (15) son of Md. Kasem was caught in the spot while another criminal fled in the meantime. Later the community people handed over the rapist to his guardian.
On 4 April, the village elders called for a local arbitration based on a public demand and a consent from local administration about this matter. Md. Kasem Chowdhury, former president of upazila Awami League and Furkan Hawlader, current upazila president of Awami League were present in the local settlement process while Mr. Rajendra Chakma chaired the event.
The perpetrators were identifies as:
- Md. Sajib (16) son of Nasir Master from Mayurkhil Guchagram of Laxmichari upazila.
- Md. Shariful (15) son of Md. Kasem from Mayurkhil Guchagram of Laxmichari upazila.
