An indigenous Marma girl raped in Khagrachari

On 28 January 2015 at around 11:00 am, a 20-years-old ‘disabled’ indigenous Marma girl was allegedly raped at Pankhaya para under Khagracharisadar in Khagrachari district by a miscreant named DebaBikashBarua,from MahalchariUpazila under Khagrachari district.

It is learnt that the victim, originally from Nakraypara under Guimaraupazilla in Khagrachari, works as a domestic help at the house of Hlathowai Chowdhury, a retired army personnel. The victim suffers from some physical and mental disability.

On the day of the incident HlathowaiChowdhury and his wife went out for work. At the time DebaBikashBaruawent to the house of Hlathowai to collect drinking water from their tube well, like any other day. Finding her alone at home, DebaBikashinsisted the victim to open the gate. AfterMarma girl opened the gate and miscreant took her to the bathroom andraped her. After raping the victim, DebaBikashforcefully washed her to vanish the proof of rape and left the scene.

After Hlathowai Chowdhury’s sister came back home, she found the victim ill. After being asked, the victim explained in details about what had happened to her. Locals caught and handed the perpetrator over to the police.

Victim was admitted to Khagracharisadar hospital for her treatment.

A case (Case no. 09, dated 28/01/2015) has been filed under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Khagracharisadar police station. The victim was produced in the court on 29 January 2015. It is learnt thatalleged rapist DebaBikashBarua was sacked in 2006 from his service in military due to his involvement with some illegal activities at Comilla cantonment. After being sacked, he started living in a rented house at Armed PoliceBattalionarea near Pankhaiya para and runninga tailoring shop in Pankhayapara.
