Indigenous people attacked by land grabbers with an intention to grab their land in Pabna, 6 injured
On 9 May 2014 approximately at 3:00 pm, some miscreants attacked the house of Ram Prasad Mahato, general secretary of Pubna district Committee Jatiya Adivasi Parishad in Bagalbari village under Chatmohar upazila in Pubna district. The attackers were identified as (1) Nur Mohammod and Md. Amzad Hossian son of Md. Hanif Uddin, (2) Md. Abdullah Latif son of late Azimuddin, (3) Md. Dabir Uddin son of late Hazrat Ali, (4) Arnob Mahato son of Sribas Mahato, (5) Hanif Uddin son of late Gul Mahmud, (6) Abdul Latif son of late Azim Uddin, (7) Komod Mahato son of late Madhob Mahato and (8) Biplop Hossian son of Hanif Udddin. They attacked on the house all in a sudden and beaten every member of the house one by one. As a result, all the members of the house injured badly. They all went through treatment in Chatmohar Health Clinic. The name of the victims are as follows – (1) Manika Rani Mahato wife of Swapon Mahato, (2) Swapon Mahato, (3) Ripon Mahato, (4) Kanchon Mahato son of late Nibaron Mahato, (5) Ruma Mahato son of Mohar Mahato, (6) Md. Salam Sarkar son of late Azim Uddin.
It is mentionable that the victims have been farming fish in Mador Dighi Khas pond and this was given lease to indigenous peoples till 1421 Bengali year. For the long time the miscreants and land grabbers have been asking the villagers for toll. But when the villagers refused to give the toll, the miscreants attacked on them. Now the villagers are living in fear of further attack.
On May 11 2014, the villagers submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Pabna district in which they demanded to arrest the miscreants and land grabbers immediately and punish them; to give Madar Dighi Khas Pond permanently to the indigenous peoples; to provide proper treatment to the injured people and compensation to the victims; to ensure security of the villagers of Bagalbari and to stop torturing and oppression on indigenous peoples.
