Attack on 4 indigenous families in Peergonj, Rangpur
On 9 January 2017 an arson attacked has taken place on 4 indigenous Santal familiesat Jagannathpur village of Peergonj Upazila under Rangpur district with an intention to evict them from their land.
It is reported that, few days back, the 4 Santal families have started construction of their houses. The perpetratorshave suddenly attacked the indigenous people on the night of the incident with the intention to evict them. The culprits also beaten the innocent people and also demolished the houses.
The Peerganj fire service personnel rushed to the spot after hearing the news to extinguishing the fire. After the incident, the police have been deployed. Meanwhile, local administration officials have visited the spot. Officer-in-Charge of Peergonj police station Amiruzzaman informedthat theyare investigating the case.
